The Debut of 2020 Newborn Panda Cubs

'

(February 3) At 11 o'clock in the morning, the nannies walked into the playground of kindergarten with 10 baby pandas, and sent New Year greetings to the people of the country. Afterwards, the nannies put the active panda babies into the "New Year Cute Box" with panda patterns. When the panda babies crawl out of the box, they are like surprises jumping out of the blind boxes. The nannies prepared a bamboo basket with the word blessing for each baby panda, and the babies get some snacks in the baskets. The bamboo basket is something like red envelope. Red envelopes are gifts presented at social and family gatherings such as weddings or holidays such as Chinese New Year. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is a symbol to ward off evil spirits. In the playground, a "little train" and a "little castle" were built out of cardboard. The little guys smell and bite, and like new toys very much.

In the playground, the five-star red flag is fluttering in the wind, and the red Chinese knots and couplets are all setting the atmosphere for the festival. 10 baby pandas enjoy with the these decorations and send the festival blessings to everyone. The average age of the 10 panda babies is about half a year old. The oldest is Qian Qian’s twins baby girls at age of 190 days. While the youngest is the Shu Qin’s town babies for more than 120 days. The birth weight of Shu Qin’s second cub was only 57.1g, which is the lightest panda born this year. The cubs are interested in the decorations and toys in the playground, and they just make everyone laugh by playing with the stuff.

“In 2020, we strictly followed the giant panda breeding pairing coefficient, and according to the estrus situation of giant pandas, scientifically and reasonably promoted the reproduction work. All giant pandas mated naturally. After the cubs were born, a small number of females have poor experience in raising cubs and need to be artificially raised for four months and then returned to the mothers. Now the cubs are all nurtured by their mothers. This year, 22 surviving cubs were bred in the headquarters of our Panda Center, plus 3 from abroad, for a total of 25. The baby pandas unveiled today are just a part of them. After the debut, we will return these babies to mother in time.” Said the panda expert of CCRCGP Zhang Guiquan.

As of December 1, 2020, 44 surviving panda cubs have been bred globally, of which 25 surviving cubs have been bred in the CCRCGP(China Conservation Research Center for Giant Panda)

This year, while fighting the epidemic, the CCRCGP is actively carrying out scientific research and breeding. The expert team has overcome pressure and difficulties through "cloud communication, cloud guidance", and guided the Hong Kong, Taiwan and 7 foreign cooperation units to carry out giant panda breeding.
